Pharmacist Immunization Training Program

Saturday, September 11th, 2010                       Bangor, Maine 

 

Program Goal & Overview:
The goal of the program is to educate and train pharmacists with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide immunizations and promote immunization services.  This program consists of 12 hours of self-study followed by 8 hours of live training

 

Who Should Attend?

Pharmacists who are interested in becoming providers of immunization services.

 

Program Objectives:

  1. Discuss the principles of vaccinations.
  2. Discuss the etiology, epidemiology, routine immunization schedule, and vaccine characteristics for vaccine-preventable diseases.
  3. Apply knowledge of vaccine schedules, indications, and contraindications to cases for discussion.
  4. List regulatory requirements necessary for compliance before offering immunizations.
  5. Describe the incorporation of vaccine services into an existing pharmacy workflow.
  6. Demonstrate proper handling and disposal of sharps, and aseptic technique.
  7. Demonstrate SQ and IM vaccine administration.
  8. Recognize signs of an adverse vaccine reaction and be prepared to provide first response measures.
  9. Demonstrate BLS cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and foreign-body airway obstruction procedures for adults, children, and infants.
  10. Discuss various reimbursement procedures.

Conflict of Interest/Off Label Uses:

This course is meant to educate pharmacists on current and future practices.  There may be “off-label” uses discussed in the presentation.   Each speaker has completed a conflict of interest statement.

 

Requirements for Receiving CE Credit:

· Successful completion of self-study component.

· Participation at live program.

· Demonstration of immunization administration technique.

· Demonstration of basic life support.

· Complete program evaluation form.
